Week 1 training

My first post trying to get used to the blogger software

Training week one.... (4 weeks to go)

Mandy booked a weekend away at Verkykerskop, in the middle of no where, a really cute stone cottage with no electricity.

Friday Day 1

Having had my bike serviced and road tyres put on, away for the weekend, and I was raring to start my training. Friday late afternoon Mandy dropped me 20 km's out of Verkykerskop her and Tiff, went on to checkin. 1km out and she had to fetch me it was pitch dark I had been battling for 90 minutes on sand roads with road tires, not a great start only 19 km's.

Saturday Day 2

I intended to cycle for 4 hours but only managed just over an hour, the sand roads were an excuse, but reality had struck how un-fit I really was, and it seemed a really good idea to ease into this training thing. I was battling to do 2 hours and in just under 4 weeks, I need to be cycling for 6 hours, 6 days a week whew. The excitement was disappearing, with the the reality of the daunting task that was ahead of me.  Daunting because the little fitness I ever had, had dwindled to nothingness. 30 Kg's over weight with the big five o months away. I needed a change in my life.

Start of the afternoon cycle

Sunday day 3

Was a bit better, in the morning I rode 34 km's in 1H45 averaging 19.5Km/h, sounds ok, but it was a really easy ride more downhill than up. The afternoon ride was a disaster having had a huge Mugg and Bean salad, I decided I would cycle the last 10km's to Verkykerskop, my bum had other thoughts, I ended up walking about 1km up the last hill or slight incline before town, really embarrassing a passing car did a U-turn to see if I was ok (guess no one walks up that hill).

Monday day 4

I got on my bike rode 500metres and decided I was to sore......

The weekend was a bit of a reality check, but I was not totally disheartened, I was really glad that I had started the training otherwise the first few weeks of PCH were doomed to be a total disaster, with just under 4 weeks to go I hoped I could get myself almost ready.

The Strava software I have loaded on my phone is great rather than a GPS or speedometer.

The plan next week is:
  • Tuesday relax
  • Wednesday Squash
  • Thursday Gym
  • Friday 1h30 cycle late in the afternoon
  • Saturday Gym and 1h30 cycle
  • Sunday 3 hour cycle.
Ill keep you posted.
